Mad Catz Acquires License for Rock Band Game

By: ispeculatornew | Date posted: 01.04.2008 (5:48 pm)

MCZ – Mad Catz Interactive (American Stock Exchange) – (Closing Price – $1.17)

Mad Catz announced a new license agreement today to produce and distribute game peripherals and other products for the game Rock Band published by MTV games.

Mad Catz has secured the rights to manufacture, market, and sell game accessories, including both wired and wireless bass guitars, a drum percussion set bundled with drum sticks, and a wired microphone. Mad Catz expects its initial offerings under this license agreement to be available in the first half of 2008.

Mad Catz continues to align itself with popular games and I think acquiring the license for Rock Band is a smart move. The Rock Band game is similar to Guitar Hero which has been highly successful for Activision (ATVI). If Rock Band attains even a little bit of the success that Guitar Hero has had it should be a popular title.

I am surprised the stock price of Mad Catz finished flat on the day but the general unease of the broader markets has weighed on Mad Catz for a while. Mad Catz’s share price is overdue for a pop and the company is coming into its strongest quarter so I would continue to hold your shares.

Disclaimer: I have no position in MCZ.

MCZ – Q1 2008 Earnings

By: ispeculatornew | Date posted: 08.21.2007 (12:00 am)

MCZ – Mad Catz Interactive (American Stock Exchange) (Closing Price – $0.94)

Madcatz reported its fiscal 2008 first quarter results last Tuesday and posted solid numbers.

Madcatz came in with revenue of 14.58 million and a net loss of 181 thousand (break-even on a per share basis). Revenues declined year over year due to the release of Real World Golf in the prior year. However, gross margin continued to improve and Madcatz was able to post break-even in its slowest quarter (both are significant items). (more…)

MCZ – Mad Catz Interactive (American Stock Exchange) (Closing Price on Friday – 05/11/07 – $0.90)

There have been many positive developments since my last post on MCZ.

Madcatz started shipping wired and wireless controllers for the Playstation 3 in March. They announced a new agreement to produce accessories for Mass Effect for the Xbox 360. They renewed their license agreement with the NBA to produce a new line of controllers and other accessories. Also, on Friday they announced an agreement with Microsoft to produce faceplates for Halo 3. (more…)

MCZ – Q3 2007 Earnings

By: ispeculatornew | Date posted: 02.21.2007 (12:00 am)

MCZ – Mad Catz Interactive (American Stock Exchange) (Closing Price – $0.83)

Madcatz reported very good quarterly results on Feb. 14 and I would recommend accumulating more shares.

For their 2007 fiscal third quarter Madcatz reported sales of $36.5 million. This was a decrease of 19% from the comparable quarter last year. However the decrease in sales was the result of a strategic move to eliminate less profitable products. Consequently, gross profit margin almost doubled and Madcatz reported a profit of 0.07 (which was an improvement of 0.07 compared to the previous quarter last year). (more…)

MCZ – Buy and Accumulate at Current Price

MCZ – Mad Catz Interactive (American Stock Exchange) (Closing Price on Friday – 12/29/06 $0.58)

If you have been accumulating MCZ you have been able to buy shares at a cheaper price than I originally recommended MCZ at. I still believe MCZ is a good buy so I am going average Friday’s closing price with my other price recommendations.

If you look at MCZ’s chart you will see that the share price is due for another climb up. There will probably be a pre-earnings run also. If the share price does run up again before earnings I would lock in some gains. I would still hold the majority of my shares though and see what they report next quarter.
Disclosure: I currently own shares of MCZ.
