SILC Q2 08 Results

By: ispeculatornew | Date posted: 08.06.2008 (9:53 pm)

SILC – Silicom Limited (NASDAQ) – (Closing Price – $5.82)

Silicom Limited reported Q2 results on July 28 and reported very disappointing results.

The company reported revenue of 5.17 million and diluted EPS of 0.05. Revenue was down 22% year over year and down 33% from the prior quarter. EPS was also down substantially from 0.25 last year and 0.26 in the prior quarter.

The weak quarter was blamed on the decline in the shekel/dollar exchange rate, the difficult market environment, and a significant reduction in orders from Silicom’s largest customer.

The CEO did voice some optimism by stating that one customer intends to make Silicom’s BYPASS cards a standard rather than an optional feature and that discussions have nearly concluded with several new accounts.

The stock price took a big dive after earnings were announced but has currently found support. Silicom’s stock price is trading below book value so I don’t see much, if any, downside left.

I think a lot of the weakness with tech stocks in general is cautious spending by companies due to the uncertain economic climate. I think economic conditions will start to improve in the coming quarters so I think it would be unwise to sell Silicom at the current price. I am going to recommend to continue to hold.

Disclaimer: I currently own shares in SILC.

SILC Q1 08 Results

By: ispeculatornew | Date posted: 04.29.2008 (10:04 pm)

SILC – Silicom Limited (NASDAQ) – (Closing Price – $9.50)

Silicom Ltd. announced their first quarter 2008 results yesterday and reported an increase in revenue but flat growth in earnings. Amazingly, the stock price has dropped more than 25% since the news.

Silicom reported revenue of 7.70 million which was up 27% compared to Q1 2007 and up 3% compared to the prior quarter. EPS came in at 0.26 per diluted share. This was an improvement of 0.04 over last year but EPS has been flat the last few quarters.

I don’t think flat growth merited such a huge sell off considering the fact that businesses have been cautious in their spending due to the uncertain economic climate (flat growth could actually be looked at as a positive). Also, Silicom wasn’t trading at an expensive valuation before earnings so it shouldn’t have sold off so much after earnings.

I think the share price of Silicom may continue to trade flat or down for a quarter two if companies continue to cut back on their spending but the stock price will quickly rebound when the economic picture starts to look better. I think it would be wise to be patient with Silicom and I am going to recommend to continue holding your shares.

Disclaimer: I currently own shares of SILC.

New Stock Pick: Silicom Ltd. (SILC)

By: ispeculatornew | Date posted: 11.25.2007 (7:35 pm)

SILC – Silicom Ltd. (Nasdaq) (Closing Price on Friday – 11/23/07 – $14.07)

Silicom Ltd. is a company that has experienced strong growth over the last couple of years but has sold off recently after a flat quarter. I think the drop in share price has been way overdone and now would be a good time to buy some shares.

Silicom Ltd. engages in the design, manufacture, marketing, and support of connectivity solutions for a range of servers and server-based systems in Israel, the United States, and internationally. It primarily manufactures server networking cards with and without bypass (Server Adapters), and legacy products, including connectivity solutions for portable personal computers and broadband Internet access products. Free Stock Picks – July Report Continued

By: ispeculatornew | Date posted: 07.08.2008 (10:04 pm)

FEED – AgFeed (NASDAQ)

AgFeed is down quite a bit from my initial recommendation but I think this has more to do with the weakness in Chinese stocks and the stock market in general than it does with AgFeed. Unfortunately, the behavior of most individual Chinese stocks is heavily tied to how Chinese stocks as a group are trading. Since Chinese stocks are out of favor right now this is dragging on AgFeed.

However, AgFeed has given and reaffirmed very impressive guidance and I find it hard to believe that the stock price won’t jump right back up if the company meets its numbers in Q2. I think the selling in AgFeed is overdone and I am going to recommend to average down and buy some more (I am going to use today’s closing price for calculation purposes). (more…)

Free Stock Picks – June Report

By: ispeculatornew | Date posted: 06.02.2008 (8:02 pm)

AIXG – Aixtron (NASDAQ)
Aixtron reported Q1 results on May 8 and reported flat results. However, the company reaffirmed guidance which means the company should report considerable improvement in future quarters. I would continue to hold your shares.

CAAS – China Automotive Systems (NASDAQ)
The stock price of China Automotive Systems had a big jump after the company released impressive Q1 results but has sold off since. I think the stock price of CAAS has the potential to go much higher so I would be patient and continue to hold.

DTLK – Datalink (NASDAQ)
There has not been any major news released about Datalink. A positive article was written about the company though. I still rate the company a hold. (more…)

Free Stock Picks – May Report

By: ispeculatornew | Date posted: 05.04.2008 (1:26 pm)

AIXG – Aixtron (NASDAQ)
Aixtron has announced a couple of new orders since my initial recommendation and the stock price is already up 11%. A dividend will most likely be approved at the shareholders meeting on May 14 and this should provide a boost to the stock price. Aixtron reported Q1 results last year on May 8 so they should report earnings pretty soon.

AMR – American Airlines (NYSE)
All airline stocks had a strong rally since my initial recommendation but they pulled back on Friday due to profit taking and a rise in oil prices. AMR was already close to my price target but I didn’t give a sell recommendation because I think oil is going to continue to go down short term. I think the dollar will continue to strengthen and the demand for oil is going to decrease. This should push down oil prices and help airline stocks.

CAAS – China Automotive (NASDAQ)
China Automotive reported decent results in March and the stock price initially went up but has sold off since. They are set to report Q1 results this month so I will provide an update then. (more…)

Free Stock Picks April Update Part 2

By: ispeculatornew | Date posted: 04.03.2008 (9:41 pm)

Here are the rest of my current stock picks:

SILC – Silicom Limited
The stock price of Silicom Limited have been erratic since my initial buy recommendation but the stock price is currently trending up. Silicom is set to report first quarter earnings on April 28 and I expect there will be a run-up in price before earnings. I will provide another update after earnings are announced.

SWIR – Sierra Wireless:
The stock price of Sierra Wireless has also been erratic since my last update but the stock price is currently undergoing a pretty strong rally. Sierra Wireless is heavily shorted and a short squeeze is already underway. The fundamentals of Sierra Wireless didn’t merit such a huge selloff and I think the stock price could easily rally to 20 – 25 dollars after earnings. Sierra Wireless reported first quarter results last year on April 26 so they should report earnings later this month. (You should also check out NVTL).

Short Recommendation:

SWC – Stillwater Mining Company:
Both Stillwater Mining Company and PAL have sold off since my initial short recommendation but they haven’t dropped as much as I expected. I still think there is further downside left and I would continue to hold your short position.

Disclaimer: I have a long position in SILC. I don’t have a position in the other stocks mentioned.

MCZ Q3 2008 Results

By: ispeculatornew | Date posted: 02.20.2008 (10:44 pm)

MCZ – Mad Catz Interactive (American Stock Exchange) – (Closing Price – $0.82)

Mad Catz announced its fiscal third quarter 2008 results after the close yesterday and reported decent results. However, the stock sold off around 19% today because the company didn’t report an improvement in EPS and investors in the current market are extremely skittish and impatient.

Mad Catz came in with revenue of 34.27 million and earnings per share of 0.06. Revenue declined 6% year over year and EPS declined by a penny. The CEO blamed the shortfall in revenue on the strategy of eliminating less profitable product placements and focusing on higher margin products. While this strategy resulted in a higher gross profit margin, it didn’t translate into improved EPS. This is one reason investors decided to jump ship today.

I don’t think the focus to eliminate less profitable products was the only reason to blame for the decline in sales year over year. Consumers worried about a potential recession reigned in their spending this holiday season. This also factored into the sales shortfall. In spite of the weariness of consumers I still figured Mad Catz would post an increase in profits. However, Mad Catz reported big increases in sales/marketing expenses and G&A expenses. These unexpected increases resulted in the decrease in EPS year over year. (more…)

Silicom Announces New Chinese Order

By: ispeculatornew | Date posted: 02.04.2008 (9:31 pm)

SILC – Silicom Limited (Nasdaq) – (Closing Price – $16.70)

Today Silicom Limited announced an order for $1.8 million from “one of China’s largest domestic server companies, representing its first significant penetration into the vast Chinese market.” The stock traded up over 14% on the news.

This is obviously a positive development for Silicom Limited and the stock price is starting to gain some strong momentum. The company just reported very good fourth quarter results and I wouldn’t even consider selling right now.

Some other stocks in the WAN optimization field that have seen undeserved fifty percent drops from their highs last year are BCSI and RVBD. These two stocks are definitely worth further research.

Disclaimer: I have no position in any of the stocks mentioned.

Silicom Reports Nice Q4 2007 Results

By: ispeculatornew | Date posted: 01.28.2008 (8:52 pm)

SILC – Silicom Limited (Nasdaq) – (Closing Price – $13.92)

Silicom Limited announced fourth quarter results today and reported increases in revenue and EPS. The share price responded with a gain over 17%.

Silicom reported revenue of 7.48 million which was a 13% improvement over last quarter and a 49% improvement over the comparable quarter last year. EPS came in at $0.27 which was also an improvement sequentially ($0.25) and YOY ($0.20).

Even with today’s gain of 17% Silicom Limited is trading at a trailing PE of 14. That is very cheap considering the growth Silicom Limited has experienced over the last couple of years. The WAN optimization sector is projected to show strong growth for the next few years which will benefit Silicom Limited in future quarters.

The stock price of Silicom Limited is trading very near my initial recommendation and I still think the company is a good buying opportunity. I would recommend that you continue to hold your shares or even accumulate some more.

Disclaimer: I have no position in SILC.
