@Zavi – not sure why they bought it, I never really believed it could fit in to their business model. They had discussed getting auction parties to talk over Skype but that seems of very little interest and even smaller value… just a bad move all around in my opinion.. one among many unfortunately for Ebay.

I’m not an eBay person. But, I don’t understand why eBay ever bought Skype. I would add this interesting story: the main problem lies in Skype’s key technology that belongs to Joltid, a company owned by 2 Skype founders, Niklas Zennstrom and Janus Friis. They are planning to buy back the company they’ve created and threaten to revoke the licensing agreement, vital to the survival of the service, signed by eBay.

This threat has let down any attempt to launch Skype public and frightened any potential buyer such as Google… eBay sold 65% stake to a buying consortium and kept 35% equity stake. We will see how Joltid responds to this deal…
