Being a millionaire used to be the ultimate dream, the difference between the rich and the poor. Times have changed thanks to inflation and its compounding effect. These days, having a million is not enough for most of us to retire. While winning $1 million in the lottery used to be the ultimate dream of millions, these days, any jackpot under $10 million will not generate much excitement. As Sean Parker said in the Facebook movie, “You know what’s cool? A Billion Dollars”.
Will I become a billionaire? I have to admit that the odds are against me but I will sure do my best to get there. Reach for the stars and you might end up on the moon right? I will discuss how I intend to get there in future columns but in the meantime, let me tell you why I want to become a billionaire? Or a multi-millionaire in a worst case scenario:)
Top 10 Reasons Why I Want To Become A Billionaire
#10-Be able to go where I want at any moment… travelling is one amazing thing that I will never get bored doing.
#9-Being able to work with amazing personal trainers: Learning languages, getting more in shape with amazing coaches, spending time with someone like Anthony Robbins on improving my life, etc.
#8-Having Access: It’s not about meeting famous people (or not only that) but also about being able to get a private tour of the White House, getting a reservation at popular restaurants, etc. I must admit that it is a bit superficial but I would love this part.
#7-Doing What I Really Love: Being able to work only on things that I like, becoming an angel investor for example would be amazing. I love my job but being able to take out more of the parts that I do not like to replace them with others that I do would certainly be an attractive proposition.
#6-Having A Stronger Voice: Last week I wrote about Mark Cuban’s ideas about investing and his thoughts on relaunching the current economy. Being a billionaire makes your opinion be considered, thought about and debated.
#5-Diminished Stress and worry: I don’t think I would need that much money to achieve this, since it mostly depends on the cost of my lifestyle more than anything else. Nonetheless, it would be a great feeling to not worry about any financial or material matters.
#4-Ultimate Experiences: Watching the olympics or the Super Bowl in person is great as is watching my favorite team or music group. Watching them from the 50th row is also amazing. However, being able to get great seats at such events while not linked directly to happiness, certainly helps by having great moments to share with others around us.
#3-Having My Own Private Island: Having my own private place that I could visit at any time, bring my friends to, relax and reset myself would be priceless!
#2-Making the life of those around me better: This must certainly be a challenge but having a lot of money means being able to help family and friends who need it. It also probably means getting a lot of new “sucker” friends
#1-Making the world a better place: People like Warren Buffett have and will continue to have a significant impact on the world, on making it a better place. Being able to sign the giving pledge would probably be the ultimate satisfaction for me.
