PFSW – Sell Recommendation

By: admin | Date posted: 01.09.2007 (12:00 am)

PFSW – PFSweb (Nasdaq) (Closing Price – $1.37)

When I originally recommended PFSW I believed the stock was undervalued but I did not think the share price would run up so quick (51% in a little over three weeks). In light of this runup I think now would be a good time to cash in your profits.

The share price has benefited from a few favorable press releases (a couple of which were about previously disclosed contracts) and the anticipation of PFSW regaining compliance with Nasdaq. PFSW will regain compliance and its stock price might get a boost when that is announced, but after that I don’t see any short term catalysts. (more…)

STRM – Buy and Accumulate

By: admin | Date posted: 01.09.2007 (12:00 am)

STRM – Streamline Health Solutions (Nasdaq) (Closing Price – $5.70)

I am reaffirming my buy recommendation because the stock price has dropped a little since I originally recommended it. I am going to average my original recommendation with today’s closing price. I also want to disclose I took a small position today.

Disclosure: I currently own shares of STRM.

CECE – Initiation of Buy Recommendation

By: admin | Date posted: 01.06.2007 (12:00 am)

CECE – Ceco Environmental Corp. (Nasdaq) (Closing Price on Friday 1/5/07 – $9.89)

Speculation can test the nerves and it requires a lot more work than just buying and holding a stock. You need to find a few stocks that you can hold long term and not worry about very much. CECO Environmental Corp has the potential to be one of these stocks.

CECO Environmental provides air pollution control products and services. I think the concern about global warming and pollution in general will keep their products in demand for the foreseeable future. I also think the government will implement greater pollution controls in the future and this will benefit CECO. (more…)

Bias and Conflicts of Interest on Wall Street

By: admin | Date posted: 01.05.2007 (12:00 am)

Today I am going to write about a topic that hopefully most investors are already aware of, bias and conflicts of interest on Wall Street. The big brokerages, investment websites, and other financial institutions have a major bias towards buying stocks. They also put many other interests ahead of the welfare of the individual investor, namely their own profits. Consequently, investors are better served to do their own investment research and make their own investment decisions. (more…)

MAMA – Accumulate Short Position

By: admin | Date posted: 01.05.2007 (12:00 am)

MAMA – Mamma.com Inc. (Nasdaq) (Closing Price – $5.60)

If you followed my advice and shorted MAMA at $4.89 you might be a little worried that it has now risen to $5.60. However, shorting a stock requires the same amount of patience as buying a stock.

There is still a major disconnect between the fundamentals of MAMA, which are terrible, and the recent runup in its share price. The runup has been based on hype and nothing else. It may take a while for the share price to reflect this, but eventually it will. (more…)

The Market in 2007

By: admin | Date posted: 01.01.2007 (12:00 am)

Around the first of the year there is always a bunch of talk about where the market is headed in the coming year. It doesn’t really have much bearing on whether your individual stock selections are good investments or not, but it gives people the opportunity to guess at the market’s direction.

I have been reading a lot of articles that say we are in for another good year. I don’t agree. I think the market will end the year essentially where it began or down on the year. If the market is up on the year I don’t see it being up very much. The Dow was up over sixteen percent last year and most of that run came in the second half of the year. The Nasdaq also made a run of over seventeen percent (from its lows) in the second half of the year. I think the markets have gotten ahead of themselves and they need to take a breather. (more…)
